Elysium talk about their fantastic album "Labyrinth of Fallen Angels" with Andy Carey (Italiano qui sotto)  1. Your new album is really great! How long did it take to finish the music? Many thanks! it took us two years to finish the compositions, the arrangements and define the recordings ... time has expanded in the studio because we wanted the highest possible perfection for our songs ... both in terms of execution and in terms of intensity and emotion ... 2. What can you tell us about the process? the process was complicated, because the band members all live far away from each other here in Italy ... so we had to record in different studios of the peninsula and then meet at the end of the sessions in Rome at the music workshops under the aegis of Roberto Mascia, one of the best sound engineering in Italy, that has assembled and defined the sound of our songs bringing a wider rock vein while maintaining that pop / folk spirit that has always distinguished us over time. It will seem strange to you but that search for sonorous perfection has brought us immediately afterwards to have well six masterizations of the cd ... this because we wanted for us and for our listeners the most perfect audio product possible. 3. Do you plan to take this music on the road? certainly now our main goal is to bring this music to the live show stages ... in June we will launch a release party for the official presentation of the cd ... and already at the end of August we will be busy at “the place festival” in the province of Viterbo together with other great Italian artists ... and our manager is scheduling the autumn/winter dates for live shows in Italian and European clubs. 4. Which bands and albums would you say are your main influences? this is always a good question. I (the bass player) have to say that prog rock has always influenced me and certainly being part of a cover band dream theater for more than 20 years has helped to root in me listening to bands like Genesis, King Crimson and Yes. In the metal prog section the before mentioned dream theater, porcupine tree, Vanden Plas and Spocks Beards / Neal Morse .. . but above all I have always had a great love for the Fates Warning ... one of the best bands on the world metal prog scene and that I think has not had the recognition that it had to ..... different the influences that characterize the other members of the band ... the singer Daphne has its roots in jazz, blues and soul, but she always listened to pop-rock bands like Radiohead, Skunk Annie, Evanenscence along Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Metallica. The violinist obviously has many classical influences especially Vivaldi and the folk music of the ’70ies and drummer and guitarist have a purely classic rock extraction with a preference for the new prog of Porcupine, Anathema, and Pinapple Thief. 5. Are you not worried that there are too many bands fighting for the same audience within this genre? I am not particularly worried because our band is not part of any defined genre ... can you say that we are metal? surely we are rock ... are we totally folk? No we play very electric ... it's true: we have sounds that recall both the gothic and the prog ... but we don't think we look like anybody belonging to those musical categories ... for the fact that we compose and arrange the pieces in unusual way ... our music is made of themes, like in Jazz, our arrangements are almost always in layers ... if you listen to one of our pieces you will find that each instrument plays its own score ... a bit like in classical or jazz music ... 6.Did any of you guys release any albums with other bands prior to Elysium? Yes. Me with the band Gerico (prog metal), Christian the violinist with La Tresca (folk pop) and Daphne the singer with Baraonna (Jazz), The Sessions Voices (Soul), How like a Winter (Doom Metal). We released some CDs in the past years but currently we are totally focused on this project and we want to bring it ahead in the best possible way ... and to do this our forces must all be poured into this band. We still have so many things to do for the post-release of the cd of May 23 ... other video clips ... making a dvd ... and other surprises that we will reveal later. Il vostro nuovo album è davvero grande! Quanto tempo c'è voluto per finire la musica? molte grazie! abbiamo impiegato due anni per finire le composizioni, gli arrangiamenti e definire le registrazioni...il tempo si è dilatato in studio perché abbiamo voluto la perfezione più alta possibile per le nostre canzoni...sia a livello di esecuzione e sia a livello di intensità ed emozione... 2. Che cosa ci può dire circa il processo? il processo è stato complicato, perché i componenti della band abitano tutti distanti tra di loro qui in italia...quindi abbiamo dovuto registrare in diversi studi della penisola per poi riunirci alla fine delle sessions a Roma alle officine musicali sotto l'egida di Roberto Mascia uno dei migliori sound engineering d’Italia che ha assemblato e definito il suono delle nostre canzoni apportando una vena rock più ampia pur mantenendo quella vena e spirito pop/folk che ci ha sempre contraddistinto nel tempo. Ti sembrerà strano ma quella ricerca di perfezione sonora ci ha portato subito dopo ad avere ben sei masterizzazioni del cd...questo perché volevamo per noi e per i nostri ascoltatori il prodotto audio più perfetto possibile 3. Avete intenzione di prendere questa musica on the road? certamente ora il nostro obbiettivo principale è quello di portare sui palchi dei live show questa musica...in giugno lanceremo un release party per la presentazione ufficiale alla stampa del cd...e già aa fine agosto saremo impegnati al the place festival in provincia di Viterbo insieme ad altri grandi artisti italiani...e il ns manager sta preparando le date autunnali ed invernali per i live show nei club italiani ed europei 4. Quali band e quali album direbbe che sono le tue principali influenze? è sempre una bella domanda questa...ovviamente posso rispondere solo per me stesso...e devo dire che il prog rock mi ha sempre molto influenzato da tanti anni a questa parte...e sicuramente essere stato parte di una cover band dei dream theater per più di 20 anni ha contribuito a radicare in me ascolti di band come Genesis, King Crimson e Yes...mentre della parte metal prog i già citati dream theater , porcupine tree, vanden plas e spocks beards/neal morse...ma soprattutto ho da sempre un grande amore per i fates warning ...una delle band migliori sul panorama metal prog mondiale e che secondo me non ha avuto il riconoscimento che doveva.....diverse le influenze che caratterizzano gli altri membri della band...la cantante Daphne ha le sue radici nel Jazz , blues e soul, ma ha sempre amato e ascoltato band come i Radiohead, Skunk Anansie, Evanescence, Pink Floyd e Metallica.…mentre il violinista ha ovviamente molte influenze classiche soprattutto Vivaldi e la musica folk anno 70...infine batterista e chitarrista hanno una estrazione prettamente classic rock con predilezione per il new prog di porcupine, anathema, e pinapple thief 5. Non sei preoccupato che ci sono troppi gruppi che lottano per lo stesso pubblico all'interno di questo genere? Non sono particolarmente preoccupato perché la nostra band non fa parte di nessun genere definito...puoi dire che siamo metal? sicuramente siamo rock...siamo totalmente folk? No suoniamo molto elettrico...è vero: abbiamo si sonorità che richiamano sia il gotico e il prog...ma non crediamo di assomigliare a nessuno facente parte di quelle categorie musicali...per il fatto che componiamo e arrangiamo i pezzi in modo non usuale...la nostra music è fatta di temi , come nel Jazz, i nostri arrangiamenti avvengono quasi sempre a strati ...se tu ascolti un nostro pezzo troverai che ogni strumento suona una sua partitura...un po’ come nella musica classica o jazz... 6. Qualcuno di voi ragazzi rilasciare alcun Album con altre band prima di Elysium? Si io con la band Gerico (prog metal), Christian il violinista con La Tresca (folk pop) e Daphne la cantante con i Baraonna (Jazz),The Sessions Voices (Soul), How like a Winter (Doom Metal) abbiamo rilasciato alcuni cd negli anni passati ma attualmente siamo totalmente concentrati su questo progetto e volgiamo portarlo avanti nel miglio modo possibile...e per fare questo che nostre forze devono essere tutte riversate in questa band. abbiamo in cantiera ancora tante iniziative per il dopo uscita del cd del 23 maggio...altri video clip ...realizzazione di un dvd...ed altre sorprese che sveleremo più avanti nel tempo.
